A speaker uses open browser tabs as a metaphor for dissertation work. Keeping tabs open feels necessary until you finish and can finally close them all. The relief of that moment means you're done.
Joy of thinking. You get to the point where you can close all those tabs on the top of your computer because you're afraid I better keep them open because I might need it someday and I don't know where it would be and it would spend days trying to find it again. You finish. It's still hard to get rid of them all, but boy as you can start clicking them closed. It really does feel good, and I wish you many closed tabs.
