Behind the Scenes of the Big Game Commercial 2025 | Squarespace

Squarespace's 11th Super Bowl ad was shot on Ireland's west coast in December with just hours of daylight, relentless wind, and rain. Chief Creative Officer David Lee led the team through months of revisions to land on a cinematic, surreal comedy. A donkey named Daisy and geese added both charm and chaos to the production.

We're in it now. Uh, we're here out in the coastline of Ireland shooting, uh, just a couple days before Christmas. It's been a heavy one.
We just happen to be shooting on the 3 shortest days of the year. Don't have a lot of light.
The wind and the rain, it's happening.
Relentless. Abysmal. Just kind of get this thing done as best we can.
My name is David Lee. And I'm the Chief Creative Officer at Squarespace. So this year marks our 11th Super Bowl. We are here shooting on the west coast of Ireland. She clipped the wing. To tell a very cinematic story in a very surreal, humorous way. We like smart humor, but we also love things to be really beautiful at the same time.
Good girl. Hey, this is a great time to interview—
Oh, you want me to say it?
David is such a great leader.
David is such a great leader. We start ideating all the way back in July. It goes through rounds of revisions and rounds of concepting to get to where we are now.
So this was an idea that evolved from other ideas, things that make us laugh, and it kind of like found its true form in Ireland. What's your role in the shoot? Craig's first in helping him out, then trying to get this gear across the Atlantic Ocean.
They've done this a million times. Well, I was out on the road late at night.
I saw my pretty Alice in every headlight. It's been a mad dash, a director scout, a tech scout we all went to. 3 of the shortest days of the year, so we have about 60 miles an hour. Scrambled donkey.
Cool, thanks, man. I think that's it. Good.
Yeah. So we calling the donkey Daisy or another name? Mosley is what they've written here.
I don't know.
Mosley? Uh, Mosley?
I've been taking melatonin gummies to knock myself out.
Do you train the geese? Yeah, they are brilliant, except they poop all over the place. All right, let's get in there.
Get in touch.
This is a bad time to say that.
The theme is the wind. The light is absolutely gorgeous, but it changes in an instant. We just have to Go, go, go, go, go.
When you go through these high-stress situations, you know, it makes you all closer, and there's nowhere else I'd rather be with this team.
If you don't feel the butterflies in your stomach, that's a good indicator that you're not going out of your comfort level. Ultimately, that's how everyone grows, and that's how we keep challenging ourselves, and that's what makes it kind of entertaining for everyone here.
Nice. We got it, we got it, we got it.
If you're thinking of shooting in Ireland, maybe don't do it at the end of December.
