When I step on my skateboard, it's just hard to, like, think about what's going on besides me on my board in that moment. My name is Brianna King. I'm a skateboarder, and I'm a community organizer. I had started skating as a kid for a tiny bit. I'd watch lots of skateboarding videos, and I was just like, that's what I want to be, but I'm not going to do that because I don't look like everybody else. When I moved to New York, I found a group of women that looked very similar to me, and I'm like, hey, y'all want to be homies? Because I want to be your homie. So the second that I was able to do things with other people and just having somebody there to pick you up when you're not feeling well, I'm just gonna make a space where all of us can find what I needed my whole entire life, because a lot of other people need that too. I didn't mean to have the meetups. Everyone just came, like, together. I was just hanging out at the skate park and I'm like, yo, you want some help? Just simple, tiny tips like turn your shoulders, turn your hips. Every day they'd come back to me like, Brianna, Brianna, Brianna, and then created like a big friend group and it just happened by accident. Everyone in my community, everyone's just already using Squarespace, so it's just like a comfortable place where all of us can just be like helping each other. Squarespace is where you can find all of my stuff. My meetups, all my flyers, emailing list, scrolly scrolly, clicky clicky, thank you. All in one spot. I think the difference that I hold on, like, my online presence was, like, I didn't care. I didn't care how people perceived me. I think that's why it was easy for people to follow me. I was, like, posting so many bails. I'm never trying to get, like, my best clip. It's just like, it's really not that serious. I'm doing this for fun. When people come to my meetups, one thing that I really hope and push for is they remember how they felt in that moment and apply it to the rest of their lives. Just remember how good you can feel.
Thank you.
