Every time inventory shows up in this office, it's like a miracle. My name is Ime Trux, and I'm the founder of Bembien. Bembien is a straw handbag company that is based here in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. It's a very small company, so it's just my boyfriend and myself. Before Bembien, I worked in fashion for some time, and at that point in my career, I wanted to try something on my own. So, you know, you work for a large, amazing fashion company. You can tell it doesn't really need you fully. And when you go and you do something yourself, you're truly understanding if, like, you have the skills to make it happen. Bambian really came at a time when I needed to do that for myself. Before I even announced to anyone in my network that I was starting a company, like, it felt incredibly scary. It's kind of like a snowball situation ends up happening where you have an idea, you see something that you love, and then you need to figure out a way to, like, And then I woke up on Saturday morning, and I will never forget this feeling because, like, I had probably, like, 50 out-of-stock Squarespace alerts on my phone. Like, my entire site was sold out. It became a brand overnight, basically. Every day is scary. With more eyes on you, there's more opportunities to make mistakes, and so I think that's what I've learned the most. I'd say it's like the opposite of feeling invincible. It's like feeling extremely vulnerable. Like, you don't have to have all the confidence in the world. You don't have to be so sure of yourself. You don't have to be flawless. You start something and you realize, like, well, it started and I'm gonna do everything to protect it, preserve it, expand it. And you realize it's not confidence, it's just passion. We recently, we were closing up. It was late on a Friday. We had just put this door up and we were like, man, it's feeling good in here. It's starting to feel like a real office. And so, yeah, we're getting there.
