A short speech by Mike Balla (spoken at a meet-and-greet) outlining his campaign background and commitment to educational races. He references his previous 2022 campaign—saying he fell 7,700 votes short out of about 2 million—and describes his sustained engagement with Michigan State University board meetings over four years (calling himself the “ninth trustee”). He praises a colleague, Sunny, for organizing the team, gives his campaign website (mikeballa4msu.org), and urges listeners to get involved in the election.

My name is Mike Baylor, and it's an honor to be here tonight. I'm going to come back to sunny. I want to come back to Sunny, but I want to tell you I'm going to work backward from what winning looks like. And in a lot of ways, I feel like this is like a movie. It's like the Avengers. This room tonight is full of these candidates, which are amazing. So Sonny gets credit for putting this team together. We've seen each other around the state, and I've been in a lot of rooms. I don't think I've been in a room in this cycle that's had so many great candidates in one room. And that's pretty cool. And you all, trust me, need all of us to win. And we can win. And now I'm going to get real quick back to sunny. I ran in 22. I was 7700 votes short out of 2 million is all that kept me from that office. What that gets me is nothing more than a cup of coffee and a chance to try it again. I've been to every board meeting at MSU for four years, taking time away from work to speak on issues and be a part of that. Some people jokingly call me the ninth trustee. I call it practice for when I bring this thing home in November. And I'm going to do this. Our team is going to do that. But early on, months ago when I started this, this is the guy I saw working hard. And I always go by what my eyes tell me and not what people tell me. And I see people working hard, and I count Sunny as one of those guys. So it's been an honor to have you and campaign with you and see these great things that we're going to do. So I'm going to kind of stop talking here, but I wanted to give you a little flavor of who I am and why these educational races are so important. So remember, multiplication. The election is now. And if you care to learn more about me, my website is mikeballa4msu.org, that's not the number 4F O R. And it's been my pleasure speaking to you here tonight, and I hope to get to know many of you more in the future. And thank you very much for listening.
