Nate Auffort argues that training sales reps to speak customers' languages can double closing rates. His example: a 100-person room split evenly between English, Spanish, Japanese, and German speakers. Reps who address each group in their own language close more deals, even if they're less skilled overall.

Well, if I'm going out and I'm talking to 100 people and 25 speak English, 25 speak Spanish, 25 speak Japanese and 25% German, I only speak English. You have a numbers game. You got 100 people here. Only 25% speak the same language you do. What's your chance of closing? More than 25%? Zero. So I can take somebody who is less skilled, not the greatest in objections, less confident, and if I can teach them to communicate to all hundred, they can be as half as good as you at selling and still double the amount of sales you get. They give me a 50% closer. Out of 100 people get 50 sales, you can be 100 every morning you talk to you knock them dead and you get 25. They just doubled your production by learning that one skill, how to communicate to the person the language they speak. Not even being half as good as you can.
