This is a YouTube video titled "Don't Steal the Hard" containing a personal storytelling talk about parenting lessons. The speaker shares an experience involving their child, Charlie, learning resilience through a school reading challenge, emphasizing the message that children are "born to do hard things." The content is reflective and motivational, created in June 2025.
One of my biggest parenting flops actually ended up being one of my biggest parenting lessons. My youngest, Charlie, was in third grade. They have this program. Basically, they have to read this passage and answer questions. My third grader was needing to read books that were, like, this big. I could see his friends were required to read, like, books like this. And so I was trying to be a good parent. I was like, charlie, go in and talk to Mrs. Burleson and just tell her, like, this is too hard. He's like, okay, Mom, I will pick him up from school that day. I'm like, did you talk to Mrs. Burleson? He said, I did. Did she change it for you? Well, no, mom, she didn't. Well, what'd she say? She said I was born to do hard things. She showed me that if I divided up this book and each night I read this much, I'd meet my goal. I was born to do hard things, and it makes me cry because everything in me wanted to take the heart away from him. I wanted to make it easier. And Mrs. Burleson saw in him that he was born to do hard things. And he became excited. He couldn't wait to get home that night and read the little bit that she had marked out for him. Charlie is now a junior in high school, but this boy knows he was born to do hard things. That's a lesson that I almost stole from him. You were born to do hard things, and your kids were born to do hard things. Don't steal the hardware.
