This is a YouTube video titled "Introducing a pacifier? Try THIS!" containing a monologue or instructional talk recorded in late 2024. The speaker explains reflexes in babies related to the tongue and palate, demonstrating how to stimulate the sucking reflex with a pacifier. The content is educational and focused on infant care techniques.
I'm going to teach you something that you can bring up at your next baby shower. You'll seem so wise. If you put something on the tip of a baby's tongue right here, they're going to go. That's a reflex. It protects the airway. They spit it out. Right? If you put something on the back of a baby's tongue, they gag. So up here, back there, all that does is protect the airway, right? The human body. Amazing. We're protecting that airway. But take your finger. I know this is going to look weird. Just trust me on this. Feel up there. Feel how it's kind of hard. Slide your finger back slightly. That's the soft palate. Feel it where it gets soft in between, kind of that hard in the soft palate. If you take a pacifier and insert it kind of upward in and upward. Where the two meet, that's where the sucking reflex is. Inward, upward. Hold it there. Your baby will start sucking. Might take a little bit.
