This is a YouTube video titled "Is tummy sleep stressing you out? Here's why it's safe for your baby!" containing a monologue or informational talk recorded in 2024. The speaker discusses infant sleep safety, specifically addressing concerns about babies sleeping face down in the crib, explaining safe practices and reassuring parents about this common behavior.
What do you do when your little one is face down in the crib? If you haven't seen it yet, you probably will. Little ones love to bury their face into the crib mattress, and it freaks parents out. So let's discuss it first. Know this. Anytime you lay your little one down for sleep that entire first year of their life, you will be laying them down on their back. Now, if they have the ability and the strength to roll onto their tummy, and as long as they're not swaddled, we have to come out of the swaddle when they start rolling. If they have the strength and the ability to roll onto their tummy, it's safe to allow them to sleep in that position. But why are they face down in the crib? They love it. We just need to look for a few things. We must make sure that we're using a mattress designed for infants, like a crib mattress. Next, you want to check that there's no loose bedding in the crib, no blankets and pillows, comforters, anything like that in the crib. And finally, like I said before, they can't be swaddled. We have to have those arms free. A sleep sack is okay if you're doing those things, it's safe. Little ones, their noses are shaped in such a way that when they bury their face into that mattress, they can still breathe. And if they can't, they'll lift their head and turn it so that they can breathe. Now, if you're uncomfortable, feel free to go in and turn their head. But just know in your heart they're safe, they're okay.
