This is a YouTube video titled "WHY won't my 2 year old stay in BED?! #toddlersleep" created in February 2025. The content is a monologue or talk explaining the concept of impulse control in toddlers, particularly why a 2-year-old may have difficulty staying in bed, and offers parenting advice about using cribs until age 3 to manage this behavior.
Why can't my 2 year old just stay in bed? Have you found yourself asking that question? The answer is impulse control. Think of it like this. You're scrolling social media and this person leaves a terrible comment. They're wrong. It's not okay. And you've got the perfect snarky response to put them right in their place. Hold me back. Hold me back. But you decide to close the app and walk away. That's impulse control in action. It's your ability to feel an urge and then choose how to respond based on what's best for you and what the possible consequences are. It's a skill you've learned over time. You've practiced and perfected this skill for little ones under the age of three. Impulse control is still in the early stages of development. An urge pops in their head. I think I'm gonna get up and go find my mom. And the next thing you. They're out of bed and walking down the hall. Never mind that you've told them a million times to stay in bed. Impulse control just isn't well developed back to that 2 year old who keeps getting out of bed. Unless there are strong reasons, I highly recommend keeping your little one in the crib until age 3. The physical boundaries of the crib are perfect until impulse control is a bit more developed.
