In this TN Nursery YouTube video, the presenter introduces reindeer moss (Cladonia rangiferina), a cup lichen belonging to the family Cladoniaceae (often referenced as Fruticaceae). The narration covers its taxonomy, common names, and physical description—including its light‑white/gray color, branching pattern, branch diameter (1–5 mm), height up to 10 cm, and the lack of a well‑defined cortex, being protected instead by loose hyphae. The speaker notes its ecological prevalence: it may cover about 6 % of Earth’s surface, dominates boreal forest floors and low alpine sites, especially in Canada’s boreal region. The lichen contains numerous bioactive compounds, though specifics are not detailed. The video concludes with a sales pitch, stating that reindeer moss is available for purchase from Tennessee Wholesale Nursery at low prices with fast shipping.

Welcome to TN Nursery YouTube channel. Today, let's talk about reindeer moss. Reindeer moss is a lichen of Fruticaceae, having a very light color, nearly white. It is a cup lichen species belonging to the Cladiniaceae family. These are perfect for growing in a variety of lands and soils including hot and cold climates. There are some assumptions according to which a total of 6% of the Earth's surface is covered with this lichen species. They are widespread in the lands of boreal forests. Also, it dominates the low alpine sites. It is a dominant species of lichens that people can observe in Canada's boreal forest. The plant has an extensive network of branches. Each of the plant branches is again divided into 2 or 3 small branches. Some of the thicker branches have a diameter of 1 to 5 millimeters. They have a gray or whitish color that forms a mat on the ground. It can go up to 10 centimeters in height. There is no well-defined and organized cortex. Instead, it has loose hyphae covering and protecting it. The species has smaller angle of branching than Cladonia portentosa. Lichen Cladonia rangiferina also goes by the names deer moss and reindeer cup lichen. Reindeer moss has numerous bioactive compounds that are present in this species. Reindeer moss is for sale at Tennessee Wholesale Nursery with low prices and fast shipping. Thanks for watching.
