In this TN Nursery video, the host introduces European ginger (Hexastylis arifolia), an evergreen native perennial ground cover found in the eastern North American woodlands, especially South Carolina. The plant features arrow‑shaped, mottled green leaves, a faint licorice/anise scent, and tiny purple blooms that emerge beneath the foliage in spring. It thrives in wet deciduous forests, woodland settings, and can also grow in partial sun or dappled shade across a wide range of hardiness zones, requiring minimal care and being pest‑free. The roots have a mild ginger‑like flavor suitable for culinary use, though less intense than cultivated ginger. The video concludes by noting that the plant is available for purchase at Tennessee Wholesale Nursery with low prices and fast shipping.
