Welcome to TN Nursery YouTube channel. Today let's talk about ferns, particularly fiddlehead ferns. Fiddlehead fern was introduced in the early 18th century to the Acadians. It was harvested naturally in eastern Canada, foraged from the ostrich fern Matucha struthiopteris. The appearance of early spring fern is tightly coiled tips with a delicate texture. They appear like tiny curls coming out of the soil or mud. These plants are bright green naturally. While hunting for them, you may find them covered in brown papery skin, which can come off quickly if rubbed. The safest ferns are the ostrich ferns. It may appear weird due to its tightly coiled shape, but it is a quaint vegetable, and people wait for its season. It has high potassium, antioxidants, iron, and omega-3 fatty acids, which makes it extravagantly nutritious. Fiddlehead ferns are literally a fern—think fern plant—that haven't grown to full maturity, so they are still tightly wound. They have an extremely short seasonal window. They usually show up early to mid-spring and stick around for a couple of weeks. Fiddlehead ferns grows well in moist conditions. Left on the plant, each fiddlehead would unroll into a new frond. As fiddleheads are harvested early in the season before the frond has opened and reached its full height, fiddlehead fern is for sale at Tennessee Wholesale Nursery with low prices and fast shipping.
