How to plant bare-root trees from TN Nursery in containers. Soak roots for no more than four hours, use 21-gallon containers with worm-rich soil, and top with Kellogg's soil containing worm castings and bat guano. Persimmons work long-term in containers (zones 5-9), but pecans need to move to ground after 3-5 years (zones 4-9).

Happy Saturday! In a world full of food insecurities, I want to create a food forest for my family. So Tia Nursery blessed me with 2 persimmon trees, and they also surprised me with 2 pecan trees. So thank you so much. So we're going to go ahead and get these planted up. Now these are native trees. Tia Nursery sells native trees, and you want to soak your roots before you actually plant them. Soak them no more than 4 hours. So these are gonna, um, sit for an hour only. In my case, I'm going to use my existing soil that I have in my 21-gallon containers. You see a worm there, so you know that that soil is already good, and we're going to get these all loaded up in these containers. Now, the persimmon tree is hardy for zones 5 through 9, and it can stay in a container long term. The pecan is hardy zones 4 through 9, and it cannot stay in a container no more than 3 to 5 years, okay, because it gets really big. I'm going to top these containers off with some, um, Kellogg's soil. I really like Kellogg's soil because it already has some worm castings, a little bit of bat guano, and different things like that that's rich, fertile soil. Um, after top these off, I'm going to go ahead and mulch them in with some pine mulch. And I did, um, water these in really deep. I put the pine mulch on top of it. And I have 2 additional trees that I'm going to put into my greenhouse. I put those in 5-gallon buckets just for now, um, until the spring when I can up-pot them again. But I'm grateful for what I have. Go ahead and buy you some trees, guys, and start a garden. Happy gardening!
