Welcome to TN Nursery YouTube channel. Today, let's talk about how to protect ferns for winter. Fall is here, which means it's time to start planning how you'll care for your ferns over the winter months. As a plant that thrives in shady conditions, ferns are a good choice for those hidden corners of your property. Ferns thrive in shaded areas like porches and the eaves of your roof. The following are some helpful hints for preserving your ferns through the cold season. Tip #1: Water the ferns. Water your ferns only when the soil is completely dried out. This will likely be just once a week. Only water until the soil is moist. You don't want it saturated and soggy. Certain tropical ferns can benefit from a light misting on their foliage every few days as well. Just spray some water to accomplish this. Tip #2: Bring your ferns indoors. Keep your ferns in a shady location as long as the weather is warm enough in the fall. This will help new growth begin. Once there is a threat of frost in the forecast, you will need to bring the ferns inside. It does not matter whether new growth has occurred or not at this point. Frost will kill the fern, so they must be kept inside in order to live. Tip number 3: Repotting your ferns. By repotting your ferns in the early fall, you will be able to give them a second life since you are preparing them for winter. With fertilizing applied in the spring and division in the fall, there is not much maintenance required in the winter for most ferns. What you can do is cut back all of the browned and dead fronds in late winter. As long as you provide the same circumstances for growing ferns indoors as they would get outside, they will thrive well as a houseplant during the winter months. Ferns prefer cooler temperatures. This consists of creating an atmosphere that is humid and moist, coupled with rich soil. Different kind of ferns are for sale at TN Nursery with low prices and fast shipping.
