Welcome to TN Nursery YouTube channel. Today let's talk about Indian grass. Indian grass is also known as yellow Indian grass. This plant is long in height, usually 3 to 8 feet in length, having bunching sod former with broad blue-green blades and a large plume-like soft gold-brown seed head. The scientific name of this plant is Sorghastrum nudans, which belongs to the family of Poaceae. It is a vital species in the tallgrass prairie. The bright yellow color of the flower contrasts very attractively the blue-green foliage. It was usually planted as an ornamental border grass and a good forage plant for livestock. You typically find it in North American prairie grass in the central and eastern US and Canada, especially in the Great Plains and tallgrass prairies. Indian grass propagates from tiny rhizomes having scales. This plant consists of flowering culms which appear as dense tufts and deciduous leaves. The culms are unbranched pale yellow or pale green, glabrous, and hairy. Leaves grow alternately essentially, they grow along the lower half of every culm. The length of each leaf blade is 2 inches and 6 millimeters in width. They are arched, ascending, and widely spread. The sheaths of the leaves are hairless, open, and pale to medium green. Indian grass is for sale at Tennessee Wholesale Nursery, with low prices and fast shipping. Thanks for watching.
