RIVER OATS - TN NURSERY

Welcome to TN Nursery YouTube channel. Today let's talk about river oats. River oats, Chasminthium latifolium, is a plant that is easily distinguishable by its characteristic hanging seed heads, which appear in late summer and dangle on gently arching stems, fluttering when hit by the gentlest winds. It is a clump-forming upright grass of the Poaceae grass family, native to Carolina and Georgia. This ornamental grass, which is very simple to cultivate, grows to a height of 2 to 5 feet and a breadth 1 to 2 feet. This natural cool-season perennial grass is prevalent in bottomlands, river valleys, and other damp areas of the world. Its leaf blades are about 4 to 10 inches in length and 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch in width, depending on the species. These plants are prevalent in bottomland woods, moist highland forest areas, in ravines and valleys, shores of rivers and streams, and at the foot of cliffs. Despite the slightest wind, they maintain their gracefulness. You may use this grass in natural settings alongside streams streams, and at the margins of water gardens. Keep an eye on where you put it, particularly in smaller gardens, since it has the potential to thrive via rhizomes and seeds. Their seed heads look great in bouquets, whether fresh or dry.
