Welcome to TN Nursery YouTube channel. Today let's talk about ferns, particularly sensitive fern. Sensitive fern, sympathy fern, and bead fern are names given to Anocle sensibilis L, belonging to the family Dryopteridaceae. It is named this because of its sensitivity to frost. The plant exhibits a wide range of genetic diversity and occurs in numerous shapes and sizes. The triangular leaflets are widely spaced, between 5 and 11 inches on either side. Sensitive fern proliferates swiftly by spores and rhizomes. The plant has two kinds of fronds: the sterile fronds and reproductive fronds. The bright green vegetative fronds are 2 to 4 long rolled, giving birth to its scientific name, Onoclea, meaning vessel and to close. They are around 3 to 4 feet high, leathery, rugged, and usually light green with a triangular shape. It grows in shade, sun, part shade, wet meadows, wet woods, pond edges, moist soils, and swamps. The name "bead fern" comes from the "beaded" appearance of the stalks of the fern. The pinnules turn dark brown when mature and give a specific appearance to the plant. It grows in shade-sun, part-shade, wet meadows, wet woods, pond edges, moist soils, and swamps. Sensitive Fern is for sale at Tennessee Wholesale Nursery, with low prices and fast shipping.
