Welcome to TN Nursery YouTube channel. Today, let's talk about our smooth cord grass. Smooth cord grass, Spartina alterniflora, is commonly known as salt marsh cord grass or saltwater cord grass. These plant species are deciduous, rigid, tall, and erect. The size range of this plant is from 7 to 10 feet at the age of maturity. The different sizes of these plants also depend on their location and atmosphere. They have a strongly interconnected root system which helps prevent the erosion of shorelines. The stems of smooth cordgrass plants have rhizomatous roots from where the new stem grows. The stems are green, erect, tall, and are smooth, hairless. Several ribbed muscles are attached to the stems and roots. The leaves of these plants are broad, long, smooth, and taper at the tip. The leaves grow 10 to 12 inches in length and 1.5 inches wide. The salt marshes cordgrass reproduces asexually, and these plants blooming, and the growing season is July to November. The plant has tiny white flowers.
