Bailey from TN Nursery shows the Magnolia 'Jane', a cold-hardy hybrid with 8-inch blooms that are dark wine-purple outside and soft pink inside. Developed in the 1950s, it flowers from spring through fall and relies on beetles for pollination, an ancient strategy unchanged for 100 million years.

It was bred in the 1950s to survive the brutal United States weather. It's a cross between Asian magnolia species and elite plant genetics. The flowers can be up to 8 inches across. The petal has a dark wine color purple outside with a soft pink inside. It blooms after most magnolias, and it doesn't put out a leaf while it's blooming. The blooms can carry on through summer all the way into early fall. If you're wanting an exotic looking tree but you're in a very cold climate, this is the tree for you.
