AI now generates automatic captions and alt text for images, removing the excuse that organizations lack staff for accessibility. The technology isn't perfect, but it makes compliance practical and removes a major barrier for people with disabilities.
And that's where I see the role of AI.
Where do you see AI making the biggest impact for folks with disabilities today?
Earlier, we didn't have auto-generated captions. We didn't have alt text to images. Now we can no longer give an excuse that you cannot make a thing accessibility compliant because I lack the workforce for it. Maybe it's doing it right or wrong. That's another topic that we can talk about later. But at least we have the capability, and AI is just giving us that push to get it out there and not have that excuse anymore that you cannot make your website accessibility compliant. We have tools now which generates captions for us, we have tools now that describe the image for us, and that's where I see the role of AI.
