Being laid off is trauma, even if it doesn't feel like it. Unaddressed emotional baggage shows up in interviews and tanks your chances. Start by breathing and naming what happened to you.
You know, it's funny. The first thing I tell people to do when they get laid off is to breathe. Mm-hmm. We carry trauma in very different ways, and a lot of things that we think aren't trauma is trauma. When you're laid off, that is trauma. We talk to people all the time that are carrying some heavy, heavy baggage. We can sense that when we talk to you, and so can hiring managers. There's a lot of hiring managers that may want to hire you, but if you're carrying that trauma, not getting that addressed, it is going to affect how you interview, which is eventually going to help you or not help you land a job.
