Community is a feeling, not a number. Content creators shouldn't chase ROI from events. Instead, hold space patiently, keep the door open, and let people join on their own terms. That's how connection actually happens.
Community is not a data point. It is a feeling and a space for getting to know people.
As a creative, how do you think content creates community?
You can't go into a community event and hope that there's an X ROI on that event. And the moment you start to think that way, it will quickly be discovered that you're in community for the wrong reasons. You have to sort of be willing to stand there as long as it takes without putting yourself in the room with everyone else. The best part about that is sometimes you'll just meet people and they'll say like, I've been wanting to come to this for a while. I've been wanting to join one of your events. I finally made it out. Finally making it out is because they understood that you were willing to hold the door as long as possible without putting yourself into the room first. For me, community is not a data point. It is a feeling and a space for getting to know people.
