The grand reveal.
Oh, looks like an alien.
There'll be no resume reviews on that. Good morning, Nashville. Pick up some flyers for the booth. We're heading to Data Tune today. Obviously you can see the car is full packed, ready to go for 2 days for a data engineering conference in Nashville. Pumped to bring you along. There he is. There he is.
There he is. There you go.
Oh yeah, let's do this.
I feel like it's a blind leading the blind. Because, because I, because I don't know directions. I, I haven't even read most of the emails because that's when I texted you this morning. I was like, hey, make sure you register for the VIP tonight. And you're like, I did that 2 weeks ago. And I was like, well, I did not. Jeff's gonna get a lot of time on the, uh, Dana Tube Bar.
Oh, look at that. My head is so big.
God bless it.
It's just Yeah, so we wanted it to be like an actual laid-off lounge where people can come and like just sit and be comfortable and talk to us about their resumes. So we're going to set up the resume reviews like we've been doing, but you can just make them more like intimate so people feel comfortable talking How did this—
what is this?
I think this is broken.
Oh no.
You see? Oh yeah, this thing's fucked.
So update, probably the monitor is cracked. Probably. Most likely. None of the cables are in my bag. I don't know where they went to. We don't have extension cables.
Nope.
We don't have USB-C cables. This is what happens, Brianna. This is what happens. This is what happens when mom isn't here. I guess, I guess we got to go to Best Buy or something. The grand reveal. Oh, there'll be no resume reviews on that. No, we should just hang out in the back.
Fine.
All right. Yeah, nice. You get to hang out together, dude. What are you guys gonna eat? What if I— never in my life would I ever thought I'd go to Staples twice in one day. I don't know if I've been to Staples twice in 2 years, and now I will be at Staples twice in one day.
That's what happens when you put it in a hockey bag.
Okay, all right, sounds good.
Let's do it.
What we're trying to do at Torque is basically be the engagement and marketing arm for talent. And so we're putting a lot more emphasis on virtual events, workshops, trainings, partnerships, job search advice, career— I mean, we throw 3 to 5 virtual events a week.
Yeah.
For Torque. And so that's something that, um, that we're doing differently than any other staffing company is really kind of cultivating. I mean, we have a Discord and I mean, Jeff's an ambassador. We have an ambassador program and we got people with Torque tattoos on their bodies, right?
Right.
So I mean, it's one of these things where we're really trying to approach— that's why, that's why Ronstadt hired me is they wanted to really be community first. And so, yeah, I mean, Literally, the entire job is you know making making the candidate making sure that they don't feel alone in their career. What up, Patrick? Yo, what up, Patrick?
What up?
It's weird being on this side. Yeah, can't wait to edit this. I know, dude. We're going to check. We're going to check. Should I get closer? Jason doesn't want to be the first one. There you go, the vibes early this morning. Let's go, let's go!
Thanks for being late.
Yeah, day 2, day 2 of Data Tune. Um, morning session's about to start. You know, I was thinking about this last night. To me, it's— it, it means a lot to me for us to be like the premier Sponsor for a Nashville conference, because to be quite frank, I spent 11 years in Nashville recruiting, and the fact that we are the Platinum Premier Sponsor with Oracle and not any other staffing company locally in Nashville, to me, just really, really means a lot. So excited for today, excited to make some connections, excited to do some resume reviews, and it's gonna be a great day. Here's kind of my initial thoughts. Uh, it's, it's a very condensed— it's, it's the, the red— the readability is a little difficult. It's a lot of words at one time. But one thing I like to see a lot is something called a professional summary. So the professional summary is, it would be above the experience section, and it would outline like, I have 5 years of overall engineering experience in X, 3 years of experience in Y. I don't know if you've ever dealt with the I don't know if you've ever talked to a recruiter before, but a lot of times recruiters are like, you know, how many— you know, they look at a job description, they ask you, hey, how many years of this? Or how many— I like to put that in a professional summary so it frames up the conversation for the recruiter when they look at your resume. I mean, I've told people, like, if you have problems, like, trying to figure out what you've done, find job descriptions of opportunities that you like, throw it into ChatGPT, and then Throw your background into it and be like, where, where can I— Yeah, where's the intersection? Yeah, where's the intersection? Phillips Framing Associates.
I don't know what that is.
Most people aren't gonna know what that is. So I would put a bullet point of outlining it's a $10 million, it's a $1 million framing construction company focusing in X, right? Frame up the context.
No pun intended.
Nice. So, so what happened, Jason?
Good question.
I don't know.
I don't know. I spilled coffee. I mean, I cleaned it up now, but I mean, it is— it, it, it's— it got everywhere. And I just— I, I don't even remember touching it. I mean, I think it's a great starting point.
I, I think it'll still be one page even with all the changes, like, to the styling, but it's going to give you a lot more room for your experience, the bullet points under this first job. So I, I, I think you have some potential here, but have you been submitting this resume?
Yes.
Are you getting calls?
Yeah, a little bit.
A little bit? Yeah, I think if you beef it up, I think you'll see. Yeah, get that professional summary up there too.
Like, talk about this experience, like The, the, the 1-2 page resume argument is dumb. Um, it should be focused around the content you have in your resume. So as long as you're not saying great communicator, works well with others for 2 pages, then if you have the content to go 2 pages, you should be good. Yeah, we got, we got to try to get as quantitative as possible. I know it's not always Feasible, but like, you know, the more users or transactions or revenue— I know it's Georgetown, so there's not going to be like revenue, but like, like, you know, user base. So yeah, what sort of traffic is on this, on these sites that you're supposed to be networking? Is it a 10-person HR app, or is it, you know, a few thousand users, right? So another thing too, I would look at adding another bullet to each position for technologies used. So like, we need to drive home all the tech tooling and frameworks you used.
Yeah, which you mentioned in a few, like—
But for the most part, the resume is relatively, uh, vague in terms of deep technical details.
The apprentice part, like, I kept it there, but now I'm like, But it's like was so long ago.
Well, but it's it's experience. Okay, and I would go to two pages.
She said 2021 was so long ago.
Well, it's not.
It's not. Yeah.
I just mean like it feels like a long time ago of like what.
Yeah, but it's experience. So why why why take it off your resume?
Well, I don't want to take it off. I'm just like but like I can do so much more than that. Like do I need to like?
Well, but it shows prof.
Yeah, it shows progression. How do you, how do you think it's going?
Uh, I think it's good. I think the overarching theme here though, and it's super ironic because we're at a data conference where these people like research and procure data for companies, can't do it for themselves. Yeah, like none of these resumes show the data about the accomplishments or the jobs that these people are doing. It's a huge missed opportunity.
So I think one of the things that we do that I absolutely love is the fact that we offer resume reviews like nobody else. No other staffing company here is offering actual help. They're just passing out moleskins and, you know, whatever. So, you know, I think we've done about 15 or 20 resumes. Um, you know, the feedback's been tremendous. Jason saves the day. Jace, after I, uh, accidentally Spilled everything. They look kind of cool though. Hey Jason, I feel like I feel like you have an announcement for the vlog.
Yeah, I mean it'll I'll already be gone.
I know you already be gone by the time people see this.
By the time people see it, but yes, I this is my.
What are you doing with your hands?
This is our last in-person conference together.
It is for torque.
For torque. It doesn't mean that we're not going to be together.
My little baby's all grown up. My baby's all grown up, so leave it where it is.
Yeah, going to Jetbrains.
Going Jetbrains.
I'll be at Jetbrains by the time this comes out. You'll all have seen that. But, uh, you're, you're all fantastic people, and I hope that we have— we've helped you in some way.
Yeah, while I was here. And Jason, Jason's still going to be— you're still going to be here. You're still going to be— yeah, well, it's like you said, you're excited to actually just be a part of the community. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Jason's going to be a testament to everybody in the community. Yep, yep. So, well, Jason, appreciate you, brother.
Appreciate you too.
Love you, brother. Jordan with me.
They're gonna kiss.
Yeah, let's not get weird. Let's not get weird. Uh, but anyways, no, Data Tune, thank you. That was an amazing time breaking down. Um, I— dude, honestly, the resumes got crazy there at the end. I think we did about 25, 30 resumes.
Yeah, I feel like we did more. Yeah, like right kind of at the end here.
Yep. So, uh, yeah, it was great. Did 25, 30 resume reviews, packing up. And so, Ed, thank you for having us. The folks at DataTune, thank you.
That was fantastic.
Yeah, it was great.
Data.
Go data. I don't know half the words to put on a resume, but hey, go data.
Peace.
