it’s time to update the hiring process #hiring #techjobs

Taylor Desseyn argues hiring teams should maintain a wider candidate pipeline through each round instead of narrowing down to one person, so they don't have to restart when a top choice declines.

The whole thing of interviewing is casting a wide net, right? I think a lot of times with interviewing, we're like, we need 5 people in the first round, 3 people in the second round, and we want the, like, one person in the final round, the third round, if we do 3 rounds, right? It needs to be like 5 people in the first round, 4 people in the second round, and 3 people in the final round. Because what you don't want to do is you don't want to, like, hone in on one person and get them through. And then that person says no, and then you gotta go, oh damn, gotta go all the way back to these over here, and you gotta pull them through the interview process, right? You gotta try to— now I'm, I'm all about moving quickly with the person you like, right? Hear me when I say that. But at the end of the day, you gotta try to get everybody through the pipe as much as you can because you don't want to start from zero because that's just exhausting. None of us got time for that.
