Taylor Desseyn argues that companies need to show up in developer communities and at conferences to actually reach developers. Ads and generic social posts don't cut it. Real engagement means being where developers already are.

I think a lot of times companies want to like, hey, like we want to help people, or like, hey, we're a staffing company and like we care about people, but like they're never in the community, right? And I think when it comes to developer marketing and building community with developers, you have to be where the developers are. This is one of the key things that I've built my entire career on is like, hey, you got to be where the people are, and the people are at these conferences. The people aren't necessarily going to watch your ad unless it's a good ad, Or people aren't necessarily gonna engage on some Canva post. At the end of the day, they're gonna engage with you because they see you actively trying to give back to developer community.
