I probably wasted a ton of opportunities by firing a resume in that a human never looked at. So you're messaging these people before you submit. What does the message look like? Here's one. Hey, I just applied for your head of developer relations role. As a regular user of your software, I have 20 years of experience leading and executing DevRel programs and strategy. I'd love to know more about this role if you'd be interested to chat. That's kind of the gist of what most of my messages are like. But when I was going to tops and reaching out to those high-level executives, I wasn't asking for a meeting at all. I wanted them to look at the stuff that I had. Now they have incentive. Oh, this is interesting. This might be a good fit. I was pitching a new business unit, basically. Most companies, when I was just trying to connect with a person about about a role. It's surprisingly easy, honestly. But you could also just go find the other advocates that are on the team and be like, hey, I'm interested in this role. I'd love to know more. Can you connect with the hiring manager or can we chat about what you do? The positive responses I got to those and the number of times people were like, yeah, I'd be happy to chat, was surprising.
