A developer criticized Cloudflare's tools online, and the company noticed. They messaged him directly and offered him a job to fix the problems he'd pointed out. Being vocal about what's broken can catch a company's attention in ways that polished applications can't.

I tried out their stuff and I was complaining about how bad the DX is online.
I think the big thing is, is that you're not late. I would say now is more on an even playing field than ever.
I look forward to hiring someone on my team who says my shit is trash and they can do a better job. That is like the best outcome for me. And the reason I say this is that's how I got my job in Cloudflare. I tried out their stuff and I was complaining about how bad the DX is online. So they got into my DMs and they were like, are you going to keep complaining or do you want a job to come fix this? It's like, okay, let's go. I've never done this sort of thing before, but that counts.
