A job seeker describes his routine: 45 minutes of Netflix with his wife, then three focused hours of work before bed. He argues that cutting streaming and other digital distractions is essential during unemployment, whether you're mass-applying to jobs or building a personal brand on YouTube.
Especially when I was unemployed, I was like, I have to.
I truly believe that the biggest blocker stopping people is their phone and streaming services like Netflix.
Me and my wife watch probably one show, like a 45-minute show every night. She falls asleep. I come into my office and I work for 3 hours, and then I go to sleep, and I do it all again the next morning. But it's one of those things where I want to give up things. I think that's where I kind of started, because I had to at some point, especially when I was unemployed. I was like, I have to give up doing this because I need to do other things. Probably should spend these next 3 hours applying for 400 jobs, or I could make one YouTube video and potentially get a job in the future.
