weekend in cali for mens cancer awareness workouts and burritos

Taylor Desseyn flies to San Jose for a Men's Cancer Awareness workout with Brian Ganz, a friend he met online through Instagram and CrossFit. After three months off exercise, his first workout back shows a 71 HRV on his Whoop tracker, and he documents the weekend's coffee, brunch, and community fitness vibes before heading home.

All right, so you're probably wondering, Taylor, where are you going to now? Well, going to San Jose. Never actually been to San Jose, I don't think. So gonna go hang out with my guy Brian Ganz. Um, gains, Ganz. We're gonna get some gains anyways. Uh, he's throwing basically a Yeah. Men's Cancer Awareness Month fitness workout thing on Saturday. I haven't worked out in 3 months since having Ozzy, so this should be fun. We're gonna go out, but getting up early 'cause he loves brunch as much as I do and iced coffee. So we're gonna do a little brunch iced coffee tour this morning when I land. It's gonna be a great weekend. Short, you know, just flying in today and then getting back home Sunday night. It's gonna be a great one. Looking forward to hanging out, meeting some new friends, doing some fitness. Fitness and fun, and man, look at look at the new entrance to B and A. Alrighty, so we are in San Jose. Brian's on his way. We're about to brunch it, coffee it up, all that. Probably wondering, like, Taylor, you don't really— you haven't mentioned Brian. So let me give a little quick background about my boy Brian. So Brian is— Brian is who I call my first Instagram boy crush, right? So basically, I saw Brian, uh, played roller hockey. I think he actually followed me first, believe it or not. And so I was like, all right, this dude like— Don't stop.
CrossFit.
I'm not stopping.
I'm not stopping. This guy plays, uh, roller hockey. He does CrossFit. He likes brunch and coffee. So I'm gonna give this guy a follow. So we started like liking each other's like stories and basically just slid into his DMs and I was like, yo, we should hang out. And he was like, absolutely. So Brian flew across the country. We've never met in person, even at roller hockey tournaments. We've never met at a roller hockey tournament. And basically Brian flies out, spends the weekend with me and my wife, and the rest is history. So I've known Brian now, I think, Brian and I have like known each other even before Ari was born, I think. So it's like over 4 years, I believe. So anyways, that's a little backstory. I just didn't— literally, I talk about this all the time. That's why you just comment, engage, like people's posts and stuff. You just make a BFF like Brian. And now I'm flying out here to do some fitness on a weekend with him. A little load-in, a little load-in with the boys. I know he likes to play with— Got a little Chubby swag, got Chubbies, we got Gillette. Brian, hand me that camera so I can just turn it off real quick. Or if you just wanna like pop it, like just slide the thing down. Pop it down.
Slide what thing down?
The monitor? Yep, yep, slide down. No, like pop it down.
Like here, look.
Ready? Oh, that sucks.
Yeah, that turns it off.
Alrighty, good morning. It is 6:53 this morning. Um, I'm up before the house because it's technically 8:35 AM in Nashville. Um, you know, we talk about physical fitness and the power it has on you. I'm going to show you my Whoop. Listen, most of y'all won't care what my Whoop numbers are. Because like, also, by the way, the whole house is asleep right now. But most of you don't care about what my Whoop numbers are. But for those of you who do know Whoop, look at this. So I don't know if you can tell, that's a 71 HRV. I don't— I haven't hit 71 HRV in ever. Like, I worked out once yesterday for the first time in 3 months, and I think that's what did it. I legit think that's what did it. So Anyways, can't wait to document today. Movember is today. Um, Brian was like super giddy this morning. Yeah, last night it was like Christmas Day for him. So excited to be here, excited to work out, excited to be in fellowship with others in the fitness community, and, uh, excited to get after it today. Hopefully I don't like pull my groin or something.
Dude, loving the Chubbies, uh, liner on these.
Are they good?
Yeah, they're really good. You're eating donuts.
Go outside. Eat it outside.
Where are these from?
Gans.
Stans.
Stans.
Wow. Wow.
Of course, I find the content guys. We also literally we're like just in the corner like away. We're like there's the fitness people and then this is the content people like that do fitness. Last workout, last heat. This is the workout. Yeah, I'm gonna die. We're gonna we're gonna document the whole thing too. It's gonna be awful. Brian, you got you got any words? You got you got any pump up words? You got any like you got any words of wisdom for the final workout of the day? Yeah, there are no bad mustaches, just bad attitudes.
There you go.
There you go.
All right.
We are obviously in the West Coast. Probably like, Taylor, I know that. I know California's on the West Coast. Well, what you also know, that is the home of the In-N-Out. Guess where we are?
No time, so what's there to say now? Been gone for days now. It's nothing new. 8 nights of waking up face down. Can't find a way out. It's nothing new. It's true.
I'm trying to get through getting over you. We get some wine? Let's get some natural wine. Some natural wine. Get some rosé. Ooh, here we go. I don't even know how to spell that. Anyways, it's great. It's 10:22 Sunday, November 10th. Literally almost 48 hours to the dot. I'm back here at the airport here in San Jose. Brian, heck of a time. To Brian's community, Movember community, and all the people I met over the last 48 hours, thank you so much for having me. Just an incredible time. You know, I posted this on my Instagram caption, but I truly feel like the communities that are created by the leaders take on the vibe, take on kind of who that person is, who the leader is. And Brian, you've built such a special community out here in San Jose. Proud of you. It was awesome to be a part of it for 48 hours, but I'm tired. I think that burrito I ate at 9 PM last night was not the best idea. But excited to go back to Nashville, see the fam, and man, heck of a 48 hours. Also, my body's tired because it's the first time I haven't worked out— the first time I've worked out in 3 months. So I'm gonna go take some Advil. But that was great. Brian, much love. Appreciate you. Y'all have a good one.
Peace.
