Most job seekers send dozens of resumes and get nothing back. The speaker tried that, got rejected twice, then switched to calling people in their network for referrals. Networking generated callbacks where applications didn't.

But we're so traditional in how we navigate the job search because it feels comfortable. Activity doesn't always mean productivity. I submitted 2 resumes in my job search. 2. 1, I never heard back. 2, I got rejected. So you know what I did? I just pinged everybody in my network. Hey, so-and-so, who do you know? Hey, so-and-so, who do you know? Can we have a conversation? Because most of us are just going to sit in the background, submit 15 applications a day thinking we're gonna do something, but then at the end of 30 days, you've got no callbacks and you're wondering what's going on.
