Two Excel tips that save time on financial models: freeze panes with Alt+W, F, F before sending to clients, and use Alt+1, Alt+2, Alt+3 to add your most-used formulas to the Quick Access Toolbar. Format negative numbers in brackets and zeros as dashes via Ctrl+1.
Favorite shortcut native within Excel will be Alt+W, F, F to freeze panes because that's the last step I'm doing at the end of a model, making sure that everything is lined up nicely for a client on each tab. Keep the dates at the top and the text to the left. Fun one outside that I'll say will be like Alt+1, Alt+2, Alt+3. Do you know about that?
Those are your custom quick access toolbars.
Yeah. So you can chuck whatever formulas you want at the top there and have them really easily accessible. But you can go a little step further and create your own custom macros and save them down to your personal workbook and then link them up the top there. And have them be really accessible. I've got a number format that I love, puts the negatives into brackets, a dash for the zero, and going through the process of Ctrl+1, bring up formatting and choose it for Excel, that's not fun.
