Secondhand Markov Blanket Explained: Consciousness & Decisions

And in this nerdy group, I would talk about, like, how we were building belief systems based off of some of Carl Frischen's work and the free energy principle. And he said, you know what? I've actually got a chapter in my book called the Second Hand Markov Blanket. And he said this is the only typo that he knows about in the book. And his editor changed it from second space hand to second dash hand, which is the second hand means like, it's like goodwill. You're giving like, you know, a used piece of clothing to somebody else. Right. But he meant secondhand is in the second because that's how long it takes for the collective sensorium, or sensory information of a human being to collect and for us to make a decision and to act and to make an embodied emotion in the world. And so he wanted a second by second Markov blanket to describe the border of consciousness from like, as. As we sort of are being in the world.
