Unfiltered AI Talk: "Everything Evolves - We Just Have to Evolve With It" | Episode [10]

Robert Ta asks people on the street if AI will kill us or steal jobs. Kershaw, who's used AI for eight months, treats it like a thesaurus and shopping assistant. A teacher warns that personalization could make us dependent, citing a reported ChatGPT-related suicide case.
Questions this video answers
Four.
Within the last eight months.
Sweet. Let's ask some more folks what they think. Let's go this way. Hey, quick question. Do you think AI is going to kill us all? All right. Yo, quick question guys. Do you think AI is going to kill us all or take our jobs?
Oh, no, I don't need AI to take by.
You don't need it? Why?
Why? I don't need A.I.
Yeah, yeah.
I don't use A.I. anyway.
Let's go.
Cool.
I love it. I love that A yourself. No. Okay. All right, have a great day, guys. That was a good vibe. He's, he's chill. Chillaxing for sure. He's like, it's not taking my job. I don't need it. Hell yeah. Hey, yo, quick question. Do you think AI is going to kill us all or take our jobs?
It's like everything evolves. I mean, we just have to evolve with it, use it as a tool versus say it's going to get rid of us.
Okay, all right, I like that. Take. Wait, tell me more about how you got to this. Thinking.
Well, you know, managing people, trying to find different ways to like increase sales goals and just trying to utilizing it to interpret my thoughts differently.
Oh, how do you do that?
I guess kind of like use it like a thesaurus that way. Because I remember the transition from going from like not having Internet in school and like utilizing the library and the card catalog to utilizing the Internet as a tool. So if you look kind of go like old school, 1998 way of looking at the Internet, looking at AI that way you can utilize it as a tool. I mean, I feel like I would have learned, done better in math if I had a different way of breaking it down versus what humans can think of.
So I like that take where it's like we could use it to co evolve.
Okay.
Have you been using it like that all along?
I mean, within the last like eight months.
Cool.
Yeah.
Okay.
And then like shopping and compari comparison and just kind of just seeing what else is out there.
Okay. So like being able to analyze a lot of data for your own decisions around purchasing.
Yeah.
So you found that useful and added.
It another option instead of using Google, just like, let's see what ChatGPT says.
Yeah, cool. Okay. Very cool. And what's your advice to like, do you have any kids?
Yes.
Okay. How old are your kids? Four. Okay. In this era where we're giving birth to super intelligence and we're no longer the apex predator, what are you thinking about when you're raising your kid?
Hands on, more hands on more screen time, less, like, be outside as much as I can. Because as soon as you get hooked on to like anything, you're just like.
It'S just a dopamine drip. Right.
And then I'm even just putting on YouTube for like 10 minutes. Taking it away is like a nightmare. Oh, I can put on like regular TV and it's fine to turn off.
Wow.
Wait, say more about that. So regular TV versus YouTube for your kid, you see a difference?
Yeah, because YouTube has that Bam, bam, bam, bam, bam. And it's just like you're. When you go to the casino and.
You'Re like, dopamine hit me up.
And I see it a lot in him. But when I do like, you know, anything on tv, Funniest movie, Minecraft movie, it's easy to turn off.
Got it. Okay, awesome. And you said you manage people. What do you do?
Just retail. Cool.
Okay, awesome. And what's your name?
Kershaw.
Kershaw, I'm Robert.
Nice to meet you.
If you want to look us up the Robert Ta on everything. All right. I'm building an AI startup building in public open source. We're trying to solve for AI alignment so it doesn't kill us all. So when I have kids someday, I'm confident they're going to be in a good world where we co evolve with AI.
You have to.
So I love that take. Thank you for that.
Going to be something after.
There will be. And we'll just have to reckon with the same things. Right.
Video is going to kill the radio star.
Here we go. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yo, have a good day, man. Take care. That was awesome. I love that take. Because he had a philosophical take, even though he didn't use the word philosophy. But using these tools as analytical tools to augment our own thinking, I think that's actually the best way to do it. Don't defer your critical reasoning or judgment to the AI, but use it to also balance it to be additive to your critical reasoning and judgment. Consumer purchasing is such a great use case because usually in the past it's like, let me go to Google Shopping or Google Search and look up ebay and then look up this or that or Walmart compare price. Now it's like you can do it in one place. So that's like good use case, good user experience. And it was also interesting what he said about how he's got to be more hands on with his kids, spend more time outdoors. And the big difference between YouTube being a dopamine drip versus even normal TV I hadn't heard that take before and I think that was such a valuable, valid take. Let me ask these folks. Hey, yo, quick question. Do you think AI is going to kill us all or take our jobs?
Yeah. Yeah.
Okay, tell me more. Well, like what, what do you all do?
Oh, I'm a teacher.
Okay.
I was a CS major.
CS major. Okay. Was.
Yeah.
And then. Okay, got it. So in teaching, tell me more about. You think it'll take a job?
Yeah, but I work in like ed tech, so. So we're trying to use technology to help education better, but I think it's like a big balance of AI using technology in a bad way, using it to cultivate better for the environment.
Okay, so it's like a seesaw a little bit. So we could use it to personalize learning. It sounds like. But then also, what are some of the drawbacks?
I think some kids can get very dependent on technology. Technology like learning how to read and write, I think becomes very automated when you have like computers doing everything. And some kids, I can't spell properly.
Because they're overly dependent.
Yeah, because like, you know, I autocorrect and everything. Oh, wow.
So not even AI, but like embedded features like that that take off the.
Cognitive look also you can, I feel like you can find ways to work around that also, like, I don't want to. I feel like technology is very, very helpful as well. I think it makes learning more accessible also.
Yeah, yeah.
So I think it is like a balance between.
Got it. Okay. Okay. Thanks for the opinion. And did you hear about the whole, like the kid that killed himself because of chatgpt, did you hear about that? What do you think about that use case where that's happening? So they were suicidal. They confided in ChatGPT and ChatGPT. Instead of telling them call suicide hotline or have any safeguards, they kind of encouraged them. And this was the 4O model that encouraged sycophancy, so. Meaning they always said you were right and so there were no human safeguards and it led to the loss of an actual child. So thoughts on that?
I don't really know too much about AI and ChatGPT in general, but I think it's very unfortunate situation. I wish we were able to find other like a better support system than like relying on ChatGPT to talk to them.
I think that definitely. Yeah, for sure. Okay, well, thank you so much. I appreciate it.
Thank you.
You can find me at the Robert Taw. I'm on everything. I'm building an AI startup, open source built in public trying to solve AI alignment. So when I have kids someday, I'm confident we all won't die. So take care. Have a great day. Okay, that was interesting to get the take of a teacher who has to balance hyper personalized learning for better breadth and depth of teaching their kids and improving what sticks and also safeguards. So she mentioned implicitly the critical reasoning problem that we talked about earlier. If you offload your thinking too much and we teach the generation to offload their critical reasoning, then what's left? Right? What's left of their brains? How will they discern truth? That's a big question. Eyes cut Now.
