Unfiltered AI Talk: Where's Your Breaking Point for AI Convenience? | Episode [26]

Short, informal interview (Robert Ta with participant Jose) exploring everyday fears and curiosities about AI. Jose expresses concern that AI will replace jobs (cashiers, drivers), worries about societal effects ("robot racism", dystopia, AI leadership), but is pragmatically willing to accept AI bosses if paid well; he studies biology, is unemployed and living at home, and discusses personal boundaries around AI relationships and augmentation.
We good? Okay. So what's your name?
Jose. My name's Jose.
Name's Jose. Okay. Is AI gonna kill us all or take our jobs, Jose?
Probably, bro. Because, like, what if I'm a cashier one day and then next thing I know, a fucking robot takes over my job? They're the one taking in the money. What am I gonna do without a job?
Yeah.
Look like it's taking over cars now. Like, I'm not gonna be able to drive. A fucking robot's gonna drive for me. I think robot racism is gonna be a thing, too.
Tell me more robot racism.
Yeah. People are gonna start calling, like, random robots on the street. Clankers, wirebacks. I don't know. There's a bunch of slurs.
Yeah, I know.
There's so many.
Do you think. Do you think at some point AI should have rights to vote?
I don't. Maybe, but I don't know. That's confusing. Like, I don't know. Can you give me an example?
I mean, like, well, if they're. If they're gonna get. Well, let's say we get AI smart enough that they take jobs and they get paid. Do you think they should get paid?
First of all, I don't think so, but I feel like they might because they're gonna, like, start being more, like, conscious. About what?
Sentient?
Conscious. They're gonna have feelings. They're gonna want rights.
Yeah.
Next thing you know, they're gonna, like. I don't know, they're gonna start dating people.
Thoughts on that, AI Girlfriend? Would you ever go for it?
No.
Hell, no. Would you judge?
Stick to real girls.
Stick to real girls. Okay. Would you judge people that go for AI Girlfriend?
I wouldn't judge them because everyone's. Everyone's situation's a little different. Yeah, but it will look weird. I'm not gonna lie. Yeah, like, they're all robotic. You're cracking that every night, but it's like a robot.
Got it. Okay, wait, so. So going back to the taking the jobs thing. So you're like, it's totally gonna take our jobs and we're gonna have some sort of AI racism.
Yeah.
So what do you. How do you spend your days? Like, you working? Like, what are your job prospects?
Well, I'm not really working right now. Staying unemployed. I'm glad. But I'm going to school, so. Not doing anything.
What are you studying in school?
Studying biology.
Okay, cool. And what got you into that?
Well, I just really want to go into the medical field. I'm not too sure yet, but that's where I'm at right now.
Okay. Directionally, you're like human stuff, biology stuff. Yeah.
I want to help people out.
Cool. Do you think there's any risk towards that field with AI taking jobs?
Yes and no. But I feel like AI can mess up more. You know, humans like still have like, I don't know, they're more conscious. I don't know how to explain, but they're more conscious. Yeah, that is true. It's gonna, it's gonna affect people because like, would you rather have a, like a doctor that studied at Harvard for 10 years or more or a robot that was like, I don't know, that.
Just was created yesterday, cooked in a.
Lab, cooked in a lab, start cutting you open? I wouldn't want that.
What if, what if, like. So, for example, self driving cars, right. They got it to the point where it's better than a human.
Yeah.
Would you actually. Would you go in a self driving car right now that.
I wouldn't go in it right now. I trust it. But.
But you personally.
I just wouldn't go in it.
Okay.
Unless I actually have to.
Got it. Okay. Another question. What if we had an AI president versus the current president? Thoughts on that?
I feel like an AR president might be kind of scary because they might actually like implement some scary shit, like some Matrix stuff.
Matrix stuff? What are you imagining?
It might get like super dystopian. Like robots might have more rights than us. Next thing you know, our rights as human beings are taken away from us. We're slaves to robots. Next, you know, I'm working in a factory. A robot's living better than me. It's kind of scary. Oh yeah.
Then you're.
We made overload. Yeah, we made something and now it's. It's living better than us. That's kind of scary.
Yeah.
Like, I don't know. That's just scary.
That is scary. That is scary. So. So let's say, you know, when you get out of school, let's say you have an AI boss. How would you feel about that?
I don't be too mad, you know, like, I want to be too mad because it's not a real person. It's still paying me at the end of the day. Yeah. So I wouldn't be tripping about that. But it would be, it would be kind of scary, though.
It would be kind of scary. What if they paid you like more? Because it's an AI boss, It let them.
Let them do their thing. Let them do their thing.
So if you get the money, it's.
All good about the money. If I get paid real good. You know what? It could be a kangaroo.
Kangaroo? Yeah. Okay, wait, so you're saying dystopian level stuff, so I'm guessing, like, I'm thinking about the Matrix. Is that what you're thinking about? Where we're like, we're all plugged in, robot overlords?
Is that where you're kind of. Or like, kind of like, what is that movie? Blade Runner? You ever seen that? Okay, yeah, where he's like. He has like a hologram girlfriend. That's like my biggest fear. Like, imagine one day I have a kid and then I find out, you know, he has a cool girlfriend, and then I find out that it's actually an AI. I'd be kind of disappointed.
Oh, if your kid dated an AI?
Yeah, like, my. My offspring is going to kill my bloodline because it's out here fucking like robots.
Another question. What if your kid, when you're having a baby, and there was a chance that it could die, but you could infuse it with AI to make it alive, and then it's half AI, half human, Would you do it?
Yeah, I'd be kind of sick though, because, like, you can have like the fucking. What is it, Robocop?
Yeah. Okay.
He has like superpowers and shit. Yeah. You know, he was like, changing the street lights.
What? Like I. Robot?
Yeah, yeah, like that.
Or like the Tesla cyborg level.
Yeah, I'd be kind of cool. He'd be like. He'd be like, what's that guy's name from the DC comics?
I think it's named Cyborg.
Yeah. Yeah, every kind of. Like that.
That'd be kind of cool. Yeah. Okay. But then what if your kid experienced AI racism? You know, they're like half human, half AI.
That's actually.
How would you feel?
I don't really have anything. Then.
Then what if they're like, hey, Dad, I brought home an AI Girlfriend, I'm half AI. Like, what? Then what?
You know what? I feel like I couldn't be too mad. I mean, you're half AI. Like, it's keeping it alive. You know what? Do your thing.
Do your thing. Okay, so at that point, it's like. Like equals, like. Yeah, okay. Interesting.
Yeah, you made me think a little.
Yeah, interesting. Any last minute thoughts for this? I think.
I think I'm good right now, but. It's scary, but I think it could be good. Like, use for, like. But actually, what.
What are some good things?
Like, I don't know, it Could. It could help you, like, organize. I don't know.
Okay, last question.
Yeah.
So do you have roommates and stuff?
No, I'm living at home.
Living at home. Okay. So do you got to do chores at home?
Yeah.
What if you had an AI that could just do your chores? What. What would you give it? What's the worst chore? And you could just have it do it?
Probably take my cat shit out. I'm not gonna lie.
Cat shit out. Okay, so, like, if you could just pay the AI a certain amount of money every month, just take your cat out, would you do it?
No, I'd probably just do it myself. Just do it yourself? Yeah. Because it's free and efficient.
What if it's a dollar a month?
Yeah.
Okay, so there's a price. There's a price. All right. If it's really cheap, $10 a month. No. Okay, so $1.
$1.
Okay. Do you want to shout out anybody?
No, I'm good right now. I'm trying to. I'm trying to get famous on God. You might see me on the TV now, yo.
Yeah. Yes, I want to see you. What's your Instagram? The Robert top the Robert. And we're just coming up. I'm building an AI startup focused on it not killing us all. So I'm solving AI alignment. I'm building it open. I'm tired of tech billionaires telling us how to think. So I'm just out here getting a pulse of the people, trying to see what people think about AI and if it's going to kill us all or take our jobs. And what are people concerned about? So look up. Yeah, I could. Yeah, for sure.
Robert.
The Robert. First one right there. Follow me. Shoot me a DM and then I'll tag you once I put the video out.
All right. Yeah, I'll be like. I'll just.
Yeah, you wanna. Yeah, you can take a selfie with me right now.
I'll send it to you.
Yeah. I don't know. I'm kind of a boomer with this stuff. I'd have to ask my. Oh, wait, I think maybe you gotta add me. Wait, no. Is that not a thing? How the hell do you.
I mean, I'll reply to. Sorry.
Oh, there you go. Yeah, yeah, yeah, There you go.
Good.
Yo, yo. I'm such a boomer with this.
That's good, bro. It's kind of confusing.
Yeah, it is. Yo. Thank you so much.
Thank you.
I'll hit you up.
Camera guy's hella chill.
Oh, yeah, he's the best he's got that on.
I'm good.
He's got it online? No, I'm 33. Yeah, he's trying to be an actor. I'm building AI startup.
We got that. You guys got that?
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yo, you got it too, man. You got it too. Have a good one. Take care.
