A technologist argues that software without APIs is becoming obsolete as users consolidate tasks into chat interfaces like Claude Code. He predicts that products forcing users to learn separate UIs will be abandoned or reverse-engineered by AI assistants, making API-first design the only sustainable competitive strategy.

Software without APIs are gonna die. Let me tell you why. I've been working in tech for over 10 years, and I've built lots of different products. I'm on my second tech startup, and the world is changing where front-end user experiences, like your front-end application, that used to be the moat where a company wants to capture your attention and habituate you to do the actions that solve your problems in their ecosystem that they monetize and make money from. Makes sense. Why is this changing? This is changing because people are getting used to a single chat interface to do lots of different things. I'll give you an example. I use Cloud Code primarily nowadays to run my business. I use it for go-to-market. I use it to make designs. I use it to do competitive intelligence research. I use it to draft email proposals. I use it to access my calendar. I use it to update Slack. I use it for lots of different things. And the reason why this paradigm is going to change for people in the future is user experience is going to consolidate into the chatbot UI. People are not going to want to learn a whole new UI/UX paradigm. I already get tired of it now. If your software cannot be used with an API through Claude Code, I won't use it, or if I want it enough, I will use Claude Code to reverse engineer your APIs. Because I don't want to learn your UI/UX paradigm. And my vision is people in the future won't want to learn it either. So if you are running a software business or you're building a software product, understand your UI/UX is no longer the moat. So that's why
