In this thesis proposal presentation, the speaker outlines the severe challenges confronting small and medium‑sized enterprises (SMEs) in Guinea. The main constraints identified are limited access to formal finance, a weak financial infrastructure, and inadequate managerial and operational systems, which force many firms to rely on informal financing. As a result, Guinean SMEs tend to be short‑lived and survival‑oriented, with most disappearing within one to five years due to internal organizational problems. The proposed study aims to investigate how financial management practices and access to finance affect the sustainable growth of these firms, positing that operational strategy acts as the key mechanism that converts financial resources into long‑term, sustainable performance.
