Builders explain how they made the red side lights on their aluminum R2-D2 replica using LEDs, fiber optics, and a plastic piece with holes to channel light to the surface.

That's pretty much what you saw in the movie really quick.
And one of the things on the side, you have little red lights that are on the right-hand side. You're talking about the logic display? Yeah. This one right here? Yeah. How do you do that one? That one's a bunch of LEDs.
I have LED lights on the back on a board, and then I have a— I'm trying to remember the name of that. Fiber optic? Fiber optic, correct. It's a bunch of fiber optics hooked up to like a little piece of plastic with a bunch of little holes, and then they run into it to get them a lot closer.
