Thomas Messerschmidt shows how to finish 3D-printed InMoov parts: trim plastic curls with scissors or cutters, sand smooth, and clear excess material from gears and joints. Leftover fuzz can jam the robot hand or make it move poorly.

Nearly all the pieces that come out of the printer have these little bits of curly plastic. These need to be, for the most part, trimmed off and sanded down. Later on, you can smooth it with a bit of acetone. But for now, get your scissors or your diagonal cutters or a knife, whatever works for you best, and start getting rid of all these fuzzy things, especially when you get to gears and the finger joints. That becomes very important. Otherwise, your hand will not move at all. Will not— otherwise, your hand may not move well or may not move at all.
