Tiger Buford argues that a sales or marketing person should pitch investors, not the CEO. They keep it conversational and high-level, skip the slides, and focus on why the product matters instead of how it works. A technical deep dive will lose the room.
they should actually ask their sales and marketing person to do the pitch.
Yes, 100%. Especially, I think the biggest thing is the personality. So thought-provoking conversations where if you're getting too granular, it could scare people away, or not necessarily scare them away, but it could just bore them where they're just like, okay, great, but like, what is that gonna do for me? So I think having that sales-focused person or somebody who can be more emotional and more engaging, I think is the word I'm trying to look for, to the conversation, the better, because you're gonna start to have more of a one-on-one conversation on, hey, here's what we're doing, here's why it's important to you versus, hey, here's the technology, here's what it does. The initial conversations, you want to have it as focused in sales mentality as possible.
So bring your sales and marketing person along and no slides on your first pitch.
