WeWalk's smart cane has reached 5,000 users without insurance reimbursement, which the startup sees as proof of strong demand. The company is now pursuing healthcare reimbursement registration to scale toward 500,000 users and make the device accessible to more visually impaired people.

Given that it's such an important problem, 5,000 SmartCane users seems to be a very small number of customers. So what's the gap? Are you pricing people out? How do you get that to be 500,000?
Since VWOQ is an impact-driven startup, I like getting that kind of metric-driven questions. She sees a potential. We made all these sales without any reimbursement. And it's a perfect signal from the market. Even people are paying, although they have limited purchase power. We are registering our technology into reimbursement systems to reach more visually impaired people and be the trendsetter in the market.
