Tim Draper discusses compostable plastic bags made from plant-based materials like starch and hemp instead of petrochemicals. The maker sells granules to other manufacturers rather than finished bags, and some formulations contain no fossil fuels at all.

How much more expensive is this plastic bag than another plastic bag?
Almost twice. So this plastic bag, you have not made this. You have given it to some other company who makes the plastic bag. We only make the granules. Granules. Does the granule have some amount of plastic, some amount of petrochemical in it? No, not at all.
It depends on the application. Some companies need that plastic also. So say you want just compostable, natural, plant-based material, I will make that for you.
Does this have some amount of petrochemical in this?
No, it has no. It has starch, it has hemp, and it has PBAT, which is plant-based as well.
