Elon Musk lays out Tesla's 2012 roadmap: half a million cars yearly within ten years, then millions in twenty. He sees Tesla's real mission as pushing the entire auto industry electric, whether through supplying powertrains to competitors or simply showing it's possible. Within two decades, he expects most new cars sold worldwide to be electric.

So, where do you see Tesla being in 10 or 20 years? Wow, 10 or 20 years, it's like quasi-infinity. But I mean, I'm hoping that Tesla's producing, you know, perhaps in 20 years, maybe Tesla's producing millions of cars. That would be really cool. And in 10 years, I'd hope that we're producing at least half a million cars a year. But the overarching goal of Tesla is to serve as a catalyst to accelerate the transformation of the car industry to electric. So I guess that's sort of how I'm kind of measuring things. And there's the cars we make ourselves, the cars where we supply powertrains, and then the examples of the other electric cars made by other manufacturers where we inspire by example. So the most important thing is that in 20 years, a majority of new cars made are electric, whether by Tesla or by other companies. And what's the timeline for that? companies. That's, that's the main goal. Yeah.
