Draper University fights to keep its name on a San Mateo city overpass, arguing drivers know the sign and the university needs recognition. The city council votes 5-0 to postpone the decision.
The only thing I felt different about was, like I say, the sign. I'd like to see that preserved. While we understand that there are members of the public that are used to seeing Benjamin Franklin when they arrive over the top of the overpass, we want them to see Draper University. It's more than just we're a business trying to build a brand. We're attempting to become an institution in the city of San Mateo. So—
It's 1 in the morning, so my recommendation is that this— that we punt this to the city council. All those in favor?
Aye. Opposed? That motion carries 5-0.
They put it on the sign, and that's a big deal for me because we really want an identity, and it's very important to us. But I like that they were generally positive, and I can't believe it's 1:30 in the morning. So, you know, this is democracy at its best, and generally it worked, and I think we're gonna have a school at the end of all of this. Cautiously optimistic.
