Tim Draper says successful VCs need genuine curiosity about everything, willingness to take risks, and the habit of talking to many people. Build diverse perspectives through constant networking, and that same approach gets you in the door.
What advice do you have for aspiring venture capitalists? Young people who want to get into this profession?
You know, I think venture capitalist is like an open book. You need to be really interested in many different topics. Don't be scared of taking risks, having your own opinions. Develop that, go test that, talk with as many people as you can, get different ideas. And that's what makes a great venture capitalist.
And then how does one get started in this career?
Well, it's tough to get started. Start working for free. I worked for free for a year. Start connecting with people, try to do network building, and then you'll get a shot at some point. When you have that shot, just hit it right, the bullseye, and you got it.
