Tim Draper says commit 100% when you're working, then fully switch modes when you're with family. Find your own balance, but don't half-ass either one.

So everybody has their own way of dealing with balance of work and family and driving their business and having fun and hanging out with their friends. Everybody tries to figure that out. Just make the most of your life. Enjoy it. If you're gonna drive a business, you gotta throw yourself into it 100%. If you have a family, throw a switch in your head when you meet your family and go become the family person that you know you are.
