Tim Draper started Meet the Drapers after talking with PR expert Richard Edelman about creating his own media company. What began as a casual family gathering to hear pitches, with only his mother watching, has grown into a platform reaching millions of viewers.

I ran into this great guy, Richard Edelman, who was the biggest PR guy in the world. And he said, create your own media company. And so I tried 3 or 4 different things. Finally, we settled on Meet the Drapers. We thought it'd be fun. Worst case, we get our family together and get to hear a few entrepreneurial pitches. But otherwise, you know, and at first it was just my mother that watched, and now we have millions and millions and millions of people.
