TJ Walker argues for a month without TV, calling it as important as Dry January. He spent a January without a TV during a move and found it freed time for reading, thinking, and exercise. One month a year, he says, breaks the habit.

If your idea of living a life and using your free time to watch other people live a life on tv, then I would politely suggest you don't have a life. A lot of people go through the month of January trying to have a dry January. No drinking alcohol. Alcohol is a big problem for a lot of people. But there's another addiction that can sometimes for some people, be even more insidious, and that is the addiction to watching mindless entertainment. I just gone to last January without watching any television because I didn't have a television at the moment in the process of a move. I would highly recommend that you spend at least one month a year detoxing yourself from television. That will give you more time to read, think, live life, have fun and exercise.
