A short video transcript excerpt featuring TJ Walker and Hillary Clinton discussing how effective leaders use body language—particularly hand movements—to appear comfortable and confident during speeches. The clip includes Clinton's biographical remark about her upbringing and public-service priorities, and Walker's coaching on using hand gestures to convey ease.
Great leaders realize you communicate not just with your mouth but with ease. They move their hands.
I grew up in a middle class family in the middle of America and we believed in that promise. I still do. I've spent my entire life trying to make good on it whether it was fighting for women's basic rights or children's basic health care, protecting our Social Security or protecting our Hillary.
Clinton is much more comfortable when she speaks. Now she comes across more comfortable. Now how do I know that? Can I read her mind? Of course not. But she appears to be more comfortable because she moves her hands. All of us move our hands when we're comfortable. We're talking to one friend or one one colleague. But when we stand up and give a speech we stop, we freeze, we grab paper lecterns. Leaders understand you still must come across comfortable, confident and relaxed when you're speaking. That means doing this, moving your hands.
