TJ Walker says there's no real difference between a speech and a presentation. Both are chances to communicate ideas people should understand, remember, and act on. Treat every talk the same way: prepare it clearly, make it memorable, and never dismiss anything as just a presentation.

What's the difference between giving a speech versus delivering a presentation? In my professional opinion, nothing. It's just sort of a made up difference in our own head. And this, it's important to realize this because quite often we tell ourselves, well, I'm not really giving a speech, this is just a presentation. So of course I can sit down and read bullet points. It doesn't really matter every single time you speak to another human being. And it's not just chit chatting with a friend about last night's American Idol or football game. You have the same goals. You want them to understand your message and remember your messages so they can take some action. That's why it's critically important you go about a similar process. You've got to have ideas that, that are explained in an understandable way and a memorable way. And that's why I believe you're better off getting rid of these distinctions of oh, it's not a speech, it's just a presentation. It is a speech, it is a presentation, it is a talk, it's whatever you want to call it. It's an opportunity for you either to communicate or not to communicate. That's what you have to focus on. I'm TJ Walker. I help people give better speeches and presentations all over the world.
